It’s an unsettling statistic: One in every eight women will develop breast cancer at some point in her life.
At the Breast Imaging Center within University Medical Imaging, you have access to some of the most advanced and comprehensive medical services available in the Southwest. Our radiologists are experts in breast imaging and image-guided procedures.
The best defense against breast cancer is early detection. Screening mammograms - an X-ray of the breast - can detect breast cancer at its earliest stage. Our 3D scanning technology shows the fine details of the breast tissue more clearly while using 30 percent less radiation than standard machines. At the Breast Imaging Center, we perform nearly 20,000 mammograms a year.
Patient comfort is extremely important at the Breast Imaging Center, which is why we’re proudly certified as a Softer Mammogram Provider. For each mammogram performed, we use a specially designed foam cushion, which is attached to the compression plate to provide a warmer and more comfortable mammogram for our patients. Clinical studies show that a more relaxed patient experience combined with the grip-like effect of the pad allow for more tissue to be imaged, resulting in more comprehensive imaging results.
When additional imaging is necessary, our center offers specialized mammogram views and state-of-the-art breast ultrasound and MRIs. These diagnostic examinations are overseen by our breast imaging experts, who are available to discuss results and any further recommendations with patient at the time of their appointment.
When needed, a core needle breast biopsy can be performed. Our doctors are highly trained and experienced in breast biopsy, as well as other specialized procedures, including minimally invasive options. Procedures are performed skillfully and accurately, providing the most reliable results and best outcomes.
