Caring for Neurological Disorders from Headache to Dementia

Our neurology department brings comprehensive, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services to adults and children with neurological disorders. We treat:

Epilepsy. Our services range from one-time consultations to experimental trials of the newest anti-epileptic drugs to neurosurgical intervention. Our meticulous clinical assessment and innovative programs can help people cope with this disease.

Stroke. Our specially trained physicians, nurses and therapists use protocols and benchmarks that exceed Joint Commission expectations in our unit designed for people with stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). Our state-of-the-art Neuroimaging Center and Cerebrovascular Laboratory can evaluate the blood vessels of the head without discomfort. We also offer an outpatient stroke clinic for stroke symptoms, stroke prevention, follow-up care after discharge from the hospital, and stroke rehabilitation. Our faculty members participate in clinical research trials for stroke prevention and treatment. We are a National Association of Epilepsy Centers Level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Program.

Behavioral disorders and dementia. Our Behavioral Neuroscience and Alzheimer’s Clinic and our Memory Disorders Clinic evaluate and treat a wide range of neurobehavioral disorders. Behavioral neuroscience is a relatively new discipline that incorporates neurology, neuropsychology and psychiatry to offer people a broad range of evaluation and treatment.

Movement disorders. We specialize in conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s chorea, ataxia, tremor, dystonia and torticollis and have developed sophisticated techniques for especially difficult cases. We also offer Botox therapy and experimental medications, and treat tremor and Parkinson’s disease with deep brain stimulator therapy.

Neuromuscular disorders. We diagnose and treat people with muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease) and other neuromuscular conditions. Home to Southern Arizona’s only ALS clinic, we specialize in diagnosing, treating and researching that disease. We also provide expert electrodiagnostic evaluation (electromyography and nerve conduction studies) for children and adults.

Vertigo. We treat people with dizziness, vertigo, gait imbalance, gaze difficulty and ataxia. Quantitative vestibular testing (electronystagmogram), audiometric testing, brain MRI and posturography are available.

Headache. We offer both outpatient and inpatient treatment for headache, with physical therapy, clinical pharmacy and pain management. Professionals from a variety of other disciplines are available for consultation and patient care.
